Two new potential rutin benefits
Various studies in various experimental modes show us that phytochemical rutin has multiple pharmacological benefits.
In the central nervous system, rutin demonstrated the neuroprotective activities on brain ischemia and promotes neural crest cell survival. Rutin suppresses proinflammatory cytokines when anti-Alzheimer.
In the cardiovascular system, rutin reduces oxidative stress and prevents oxidative damage. In the gastrointestinal system, Rutin demonstrates concentration-dependent inhibition of goat gastric ATPase, with IC50 = 36 μg/ml, making it that rutin exerts an antiulcer effect by inhibiting the gastric proton pump.
Any new potential for the rutin? How about for covid-19? Quercetin is good for osteoarthritis, how about this vitamin P rutin?

A new potential benefit of rutin- a promising therapeutic approach for SARS-CoV-2.
A recent publication on Chemistry Europe transferred us a new potential benefit of rutin, that rutin is a promising therapeutic compound for SARS-CoV-2. The publication is released by Prof. Dr. Monika Mazik.
He especially emphasized that the natural compound rutin has broad antiviral activity against a diverse group of viruses, including the influenza virus and the hepatitis C virus. In this therapy, the rutin provides a basis for combating SARS-CoV-2 as well as various viral and bacterial co-infections. The approach also includes the use of acetylsalicylic acid, vitamin C, vitamin D3, calcium, and magnesium, based on rutin. All 6 components are already proven safe and inexpensive compounds.
One of the possible strategies to fight SARS-Cov-2 infection is to use ACE2 inhibitors to prevent the entry of the virus. Furthermore, the inhibition of the catalytic activities 3CLpro in affected patients is the key to blocking viral replication. Of particular note, the rutin has the potential to inhibit both human ACE2 and viral 3CLpro according to observations.
Experiences indicate a good effect of this combination therapy, especially in the early stages of infection.
An extensive clinical study on rutin to evaluate therapeutic benefits for osteoarthritis are on going in Belgium.
A Clinical trial of rutin as part of treatment for osteoarthritis is ongoing now according to the USA FDA website. It is a clinical study to evaluate the pharmacodynamic profile of an enzyme treatment combination of bromelain, Trypsin, and rutin for osteoarthritis.
The sponsor of this study is Mucos Pharma GmbH &Co.KG, Nestlé and Artialis are the collaborators.
This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentric study in patients with osteoarthritis. This two parallel arms multicentric trial has five centers in Belgium, the cities are Antwerpen, Bruxelles(2 centers), Jette, and Liège.
The two parallel arms are arranged as:
➡Active Comparator group with the treatment of Wobenzym, the combination of Bromelain (67.5-76.5 mg) adjusted to 450 FIP units, Trypsin (32-48mg) adjusted to 24 µkat and Rutoside trihydrate (100mg).
➡Placebo Comparator with Microcrystalline cellulose(with no active ingredients).
This in subjects with osteoarthritis study started on Apr 30, 2021 and is to finish study completion on Jul 30, 2022. Let’s await the update.
